FREE Strengths Poster (printable) – keep strengths visible

(Download your free poster here) A0_MyStrengths-Text-Poster copy

This is not a motivational poster.

It is a language tool.

The poster lists 35 student strengths with simple one-line descriptions so teachers can quickly recognise and name what they see.

When teachers name strengths, students begin to understand:
“I’m not just a behaviour… I’m a person with qualities.”

Over time, this shifts:
compliance → motivation
correction → coaching
discipline → development

5 Simple Ways Teachers Are Using This

1. The 10-Second Affirmation
When a student does something positive, point to the poster and name the strength.

Instead of:
“Good job.”

Say:
“That was perseverance — you kept going even when it was hard.”

This builds identity, not just behaviour.

2. Reframing Behaviour Conversations
After a correction, help the student identify the strength they could have used.

“I think honesty was the strength missing in that decision.”

This removes shame and builds responsibility.

3. Start-of-Lesson Focus
At the beginning of class, choose one strength for the lesson:

“Today we’re practising curiosity — asking good questions.”

Students now have a target beyond just finishing work.

4. Staffroom Language
Staff begin referencing strengths when discussing students:

“He struggles with organisation but he actually has great kindness and leadership.”

This changes how students are perceived across the school.

5. End-of-Week Reflection
Ask students:

“Which strength did you use this week?”

Students begin noticing growth in themselves.
